The non-woven interlining (interlining is also found in woven version) is designed of random fibers or filaments placed (without threads) held together by one or the other: glue, induced mechanical entanglement and or the application of heat (calendering). The interlining is sometimes coated with a layer of thermoplastic glue to facilitate assembly.
